Episode 22: Changing the Vocalist Like an Overseas Band
That agency's signed artist had appeared on the TV show "Denpa Shonen" — kidnapped and dropped off in Russia, forced through a brutal journey, with the premise that if they couldn't fill Budokan with 10,000 people by the end, the group would disband.
I used to watch that show all the time, so I recognized it right away.
I remember being genuinely terrified, thinking — what if they send us somewhere too??
The agency's request was: the vocalist is too ordinary. Come back with a different vocalist and we'll take another look.
So, just like an overseas band, we swapped out the vocalist right away. As it happened, a 17-year-old high school girl had answered our flyer posted in Ochanomizu, and we recorded again with her.
We brought the recorded CD to the agency, and they said they'd love to hear it live. If I remember right, we performed it at a studio in front of Toritsu-daigaku Station.
The result: let's definitely work together — and then came the offer...
