Episode 41: The Composers' Agency

Episode 41: The Composers' Agency

That band didn't last long either.
We played a few shows, but it didn't work out.

Once again, I was on my own.
This was trouble. Real trouble. Well, what now?

But I was confident in my songs.
The only path left was to become a composer.

I sent demos to a composers' agency.
I figured that if this failed, that would be it, but a reply came right away.

At the time, the three major places a composer could supply songs to were Johnny's, LDH artists, and the AKB groups.

Frankly, for someone who knew nothing but metal, dance music was hard.

But I was good at programming.
Back then I loved hardware sequencing, and I used the Yamaha Motif a lot.

Yamaha's instrument sounds felt natural and live, and they were thick and full. I loved them.

I thought that, rather than making programmed music sound programmed, the approach of making programmed music sound like live playing might actually work better.

Still, the composition competitions just wouldn't go my way.

To be continued.
